The good thing about 3D printing is that, within some boundries of course, you can pretty much make anything you can think of. That’s why my range is growing all the time, because I never know when inspiration will strike. I’ve had ideas come to me in dreams, in every day life or even from just hearing a snippet of a song and thinking of something which would go with it. So I thought I’d make my next few blog posts a bit of a stroll through the various section in my store, and an idea of what you’ll be able to find there. I’m always open to new ideas or suggestions so if you too have one of those ‘well THIS would look good….’ moments please feel free to give me a yell!
So firstly we’ll go through the ‘3D printed Jewellery’ section. I never intended, when I started with design and 3D printing, to go into the area of jewellery. I was more interested in the practical applications of it around the home or at work (and we’ll get to that in the ‘Designs For Your Home’ section in a future post), but I was registered on a website which ran a competition for designing 3D printed jewellery, and I thought ‘well why not?’. I never actually won the competition, but it was enough to get me started.
Originally I was producing designs which were then manufactured for me by a professional manufacturing facility (a company called Shapeways, and my Shapeways store is still operational; I’ll put a link to it at the bottom of this post). Then I finally got a professional quality 3D printer which was capable of producing items at a reasonably small resolution, so I moved more into producing items in-house.
At the moment my range consist of a variety of pendants and earrings (although I’m planning to move into bracelets etc in the near future). All are 3D printed and assembled to order, and there’s something in there for pretty much everyone!
They divide mainly into three different categories; Kawaii (‘cute’ in Japanese), Geeky (comics, sci-fi, gaming etc) and National (flags of various nations). The range of Flag Pendants is kind of fluid; there are so many nations in the world, each of course with their own flag, that I’m making them as I go along and as I receive requests for them. So if your national flag isn’t represented at the moment please let me know and I’ll be more than happy to make one for you. This also goes for the other sections; there’s never enough cuteness or geekness in the world.
So if you need your outfit to be superpowered or infused with the power of geekness, or if you just want to be even more cute than you already are, I’m happy to help you out with the jewellery of your choice!
