Collaboration with @handmaiduns
Having bought 2 of Kate’s amazing t-shirts and admiring her work on social media a friendship was born! When the opportunity arose to collaborate it seemed a perfect fit; the universe and the stars!
We knew immediately that we wanted to combine Kate’s cosmic designs into a garland of Lucky Stars, the challenge was how?
Each star is made from a strip of paper 1cm wide which is then folded to create the star shape, so the weight of paper used is an important factor.
First we used digital copies of Kate’s artwork on different weight paper which were cut into strips and folded to see which worked the best. Once we had found the optimum paper the digital copies were then given an additional hand-painted sprinkle of glow in the dark paint.
Wanting to push ourselves further, I sourced some beautiful hand made paper to experiment with.
Sending half the sheets to Kate it was time to play!
We spent days experimenting with different mediums, embossing powders, alcohol ink and doodles to produce some amazing effects. Not everything worked successfully, some papers were too delicate to take being folded but I think we were both surprised with the results and will be taking some of the ideas forward!
Wanting to embrace the idea that Lucky Stars are given as a token of love, luck, support & care and having a mutual love of quotes, we felt that incorporating a positive quote card would make this an ideal gift.
Now it was down to work; whilst I was busy cutting the paper into accurate 1cm strips and folding each one into a tiny lucky star, Kate was designing quote cards, stickers and leaflets.
So, after many weeks of keeping the postman busy, our final product is ready…
A beautiful box containing a garland of 50 Lucky Stars & an “out of this world” quote card. Each garland contains an assortment of our designs and is therefore as unique as you!
It has been made with love, laughter and friendship, it has challenged us to work outside our comfort zone and to support each other through the ups and downs and it may just spark some more ideas for the future
