Do you think people are born with a creative gene? I am from a creative family and learned skills from my mother an avid knitter and dressmaker, and from my father who made corn dolls. I grew up knitting (badly), I loved French knitting with mums old wooden cotton reels that dad hammered nails into for me. I also remember on our long adventure walks, picking wildflowers that we would then carefully press in between the pages of dad’s Encyclopedia Britannica books for weeks on end before making them into pictures and cards for family and friends.
So was I lucky to be born with a gene that gave me a love of craft making or does it come from generations of tradition and habit. I learned skills passed down from my elders and now pass these skills and new ones that I have discovered from fellow crafting friends, on to the children that I teach in schools.
Is it a coincidence that I surround myself with creative friends. No, I don’t think so, I think we naturally draw ourselves to others that share similar interests and I know that I feel comfortable and belonging within the creative community. I have another post on that coming soon.
What are your thoughts on the creative gene theory? I would love to hear your thoughts.
